What you'd do
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works on Fort Hood, TX.
Major duties
Repairs lighting systems or other systems atop antenna or towers. Tests circuits and equipment by use of voltmeter, ammeter, and wattmeter. Operates a high duty pickup type truck to transport self and materials to worksite. Performs maintenance services, diagnoses system or equipment malfunction, and repairs as necessary. Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts a variety of equipment, circuitry, and fixtures such as, electrical buzzer and bell circuits, light sockets, lighting fixtures, fans, switches, office and heating appliances, fire alarms, etc. Installs, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, tests, and repairs electrical wiring systems, related switches, controls, distribution panels, and outlet boxes, as well as a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools and appliances.

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician ~ without more than normal supervision. ~ I am skilled in determining work methods to accomplish assignments. I can plan working details and follow sketches, wiring diagrams, or blueprints. I can follow maintenance schedules and inspections, or work orders. I can repair electrical wiring systems, related switches, controls, distribution panels, or outlet boxes, as well as a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools and appliances. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 lbs and occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh up to 50 lbs. Must have normal color perception to determine colors of various wires. Working Conditions: Works inside buildings and shops and outside. Subject to contact with dirt, dust, and grease; shocks and burns from high voltage; cuts and bruises. May be required to work atop water and antenna towers up to 180 feet in height, with danger to self from working at extreme heights. Incumbent may sometimes be required to make repairs and installations outside in inclement weather and in work areas that are noisy. Occasionally may be exposed to possibility of broken bones, electrical shock and burns and frequently exposed to possibility of cuts and bruises. The incumbent of this position is on occasion exposed to toxic chemicals of various kinds, fibrous glass and extreme heat in confined spaces and working areas.
