Major duties
As a Administrative Support Assistant (Wildland Fire) your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Advise the supervisor on fire business management procedures regarding timekeeping, procurement, informal contracting, injury claims and compensation. Provides administrative support in the use of automated wildland fire management information systems. Prepare travel documents (e.g., authorizations and vouchers) in an automated travel system, and enter and/or validate time and attendance records in an automated payroll system. Purchase supplies and equipment using simplified acquisition procedures through the DOI integrated charge card program. Participate in the development and formulation of the budget(s) for multiple accounts with various sub-activities and/or funding sources.
What you need to qualify
In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification requirements listed below. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. In addition to the requirements described above, the following additional experience is required. Only experience and education obtained by 08/31/2026 will be considered. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. Minimum Qualification For the GS-06 level: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 is required. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: performing administrative duties in an office such as preparing reports, spreadsheets, databases, manuals, and other documents using office computer software applications; managing records and maintaining a filing system; managing time and attendance in an automated payroll system; and assisting employees with travel arrangements. For the GS-07 level: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 is required. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to: performing administrative duties in an office such as independently preparing reports, spreadsheets, databases, manuals, and other documents using office computer software applications; independently managing records and maintaining a filing system; independently managing time and attendance in an automated payroll system; assisting employees with travel arrangements; and experience with developing and formulating budget for multiple accounts. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. *Applicants must meet all minimum qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the Job Announcement. Physical Demands: The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, or bending. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and/or carry file folders, copied materials, books, and other similar materials. Assignments may require travel to field areas and other centers and offices. Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment, with some visits to other locations as a participant in various meetings, workshops, and training courses. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, etc.
