Utility Systems Repairer-Operator Trainee
What you'd do
The primary purpose of this position is to work under a grade 09 or higher journey-level position to maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate utility systems that require intermediate level skills in various utility related trades such as electrical equipment repair, plumbing, wastewater treatment operation, and water treatment operation or journey level skills.
Major duties
1)The incumbent works under closer than normal supervision at the trainee level performing assignments designed to provide the competencies, skills, and experience required to perform the more complex work at the grade 09 level. 2) The work will increase in difficulty, complexity, and responsibility to include but not limited to underground sewer and water line repairs, winter deactivations and spring activations of buildings to include minor plumbing operations, and snow removal. 3) Maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate utility systems that require intermediate level skill in wastewater treatment operations, and water treatment operations. 4) Duties require the incumbent to maneuver into and out of specific locations while dismantling and assembling utility related equipment. 5) The incumbent may make repairs from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms occasionally, climbing and work in high places may be required, as well as the use of hoists, holders, and pulleys when handling large equipment. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. You will work under closer than normal supervision at the trainee level performing assignments designed to provide the competencies, skills, and experience required to perform the more complex work at the journey level. The work increases in difficulty, complexity, and responsibility as you gain experience and demonstrate a full comprehension of the target level position. As a trainee, you must perform work under the direct supervision and oversight of a journey level position. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s). Probationary Period: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year Probationary Period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest. Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/31/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Competence Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Vehicle Operation SCREEN OUTS: Minimum Qualifications: WG-07 - Experience without more than normal supervision performing plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, flush valves, and various types of pipes. WG-09 - Experience without more than normal supervision repairing and maintaining all facets of a potable water treatment facility and wastewater treatment facility including repair work on basic plumbing systems such as service lines, tanks, filters, and valves and electrical systems such as pumps, air compressors control panels and switches. Driver's License: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. Certification to be Eligible for WG-07 - Must hold a WY Water Level 1 or Wastewater Level 1 Certifications at time of application or other state equivalent.
