This vacancy is for a GS-0963-5, Merchant Mariner Application Professional Qualification Evaluator located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, NMC PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION EVALUATION SECTION V in MARTINSBURG, West Virginia.

Major duties

You will serve as a Merchant Mariner Application Professional Qualification Evaluator and be responsible for providing guidance and customer support to Professional Qualification Evaluation (PQE), Safety and Suitability Evaluations (SSE), Mariner Information Call Center (MICC), and Regional Exam Center Operations Staff members or other supporting roles at the NMC. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Provides and prepares standardized written and oral replies to internal and external customers. Communicates directly with applicants to obtain additional information or gain clarification. Utilizes Mission Management System (MMS) to ensure all work performed is I.A.W. the most up-to-date versions. Applies legal guidelines to individual cases, determines the reasonableness of those guidelines. Analyzes conflicts and inconsistencies in submitted documentation, assess applications for completeness and verifies eligibility of applicant. What you need to qualify

To qualify at the GS-5 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Preparing and providing standardized written and oral replies to provide information and guidance to internal and external customers; Communicating directly with applicants, clients, or stakeholders to obtain additional information, clarify details, and support application processing; Using a records or case management system, such as the Mission Management System (MMS), to ensure all work adheres to the most current versions of official guidance; AND Applying legal principles or regulatory guidelines to individual cases and determining the reasonableness of those guidelines in case-specific situations. OR Four years of education above high school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet the total experience requirements.
