What you'd do

THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This ND National Guard position is for a UNIT DEPLOYMENT MANAGER, Position Description Number D2506000 and is part of the ND 119 Operations Group, National Guard.

Major duties

The primary purpose of this position is to perform preliminary analysis of long term forecasting of readiness and budgets. Plans, organizes, and oversees all unit level deployment activities. Configures and maintains functional Unit Type Codes (UTCs) as postured by MAJCOM FAMs (Functional Area Managers) using available unit assets. Performs analysis activities. Establishes metric and system analysis systems for unit and higher level management to assess the efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with regulatory procedures. Analyzes the combat capability of unit through intensive evaluation of training, equipment status, manning, and unit supervision. Provides technical guidance and recommendations to senior leadership regarding unit deployment program. Advises commander on the direction, management, and operation of all aspects of unit deployment capabilities. Ensures personnel and equipment readiness. Ensures the unit is ready to meet wartime and peacetime mobility taskings by scheduling and tracking unit deployment training. Ensures authorized deployment equipment and supplies are maintained in a constant state of readiness. Coordinates all readiness training and monitors unit members' deployment eligibility with the assistance from additional duty unit deployment managers, as appropriate.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess the experience, education or training which provided a general knowledge of principles of organization, management, and administration, such as compiling reports, letters, memoranda, etc., and required person-to-person contacts to convey information. Progressively responsible experience which demonstrates the ability to provide technical guidance and assistance in the type of work or in comparable work of the position to be filled. Experience using computer and automation systems. Applicant must also possess one year of specialized experience at the GS 07 grade level or civilian equivalent and/or the education. Specialized experience is described as: 1) Knowledge and understanding of administrative procedures and practices of management; 2) Experience developing administrative procedures; and 3) Experience providing technical guidance and assistance to customers and management. OR Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a field related to the position. OR Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
