The Transportation Assistant serves as a Coordinator within the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa. The position provides coordination and support for Veteran transportation services, including scheduling, data tracking, workload forecasting, and program support. The incumbent works closely with VTS leadership and clinical staff to support efficient transportation operations and ensure timely, quality service to Veterans.

Major duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The Transportation Assistant - Transportation Coordinator acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The incumbent works with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation, and ongoing operational flow of the VTS program. The coordination of transportation function is multi-faceted and diverse. The three major areas of responsibility are: (1) Scheduling, Data Collection, & Tracking Support; (2) Consult Management responsibilities; (3) Program Support responsibilities. The Transportation Assistant - Transportation Coordinator must have knowledge of clinical services, related software, and programs as they relate to clinical computing and office automation. Major duties include but are not limited to: Performs work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling. Collects, compiles, and tracks data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS). Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports. Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system. Coordinates service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas. Utilizes the Veterans Health Information System & Technological Architecture (VISTA), Computerized Patient Record Systems (CPRS) or SharePoint Consult/Request Tracking System in processing internal consultations. Plans for, organizes, administers, and directs how the work will be accomplished for the VTS program. Plans required consideration of support services e.g., systems management, operations, workload forecasting, review, and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc. Coordinates the day-to-day operation of VTS program flow, processes, and functions. Plans and provides support services in the following types of program areas: electronic records management; driver scheduling setup & management; space utilization services. Provides advice to operating managers and supervisors on how provided services assist in accomplishing their missions and programs. Performs other related duties as assigned. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following requirement: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant - Transportation Coordinator. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling and tracking data on a daily basis; performing a basic analysis of data and generating a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking databases; and planning and directing a program that provides support services. NOTE: One (1) full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
