What you'd do

Serves as a working Housekeeping Aid Leader for Environmental Management Service. Performs housekeeping duties while leading assigned employees, distributing and balancing workloads, communicating priorities, and ensuring work is completed safely, timely, and according to established requirements. Supports the supervisor with daily assignments. Duty station is John Cochran and/or Jefferson Barracks but may change based on health care system needs.

Leads a team of 5-15 employees performing work at the WG-2 level. Provides guidance and technical direction necessary for accomplishing the work of the team while taking an active part in accomplishing the team's goals through daily participation in work. Works with the supervisor in the assignment of functions to all Housekeeping Aids on his/her team in order to meet routine and unusual deadlines and priorities. Serves as work leader assuring the work assignments of employees in the unit are carried out. Distributes and balances workload and tasks among employees. Visually examine items for damage, deterioration, or imperfections such as rust, pitting, and cracks of equipment utilized in connection with the job. Operates janitorial equipment to determine whether it operates correctly after re-assembly. Promptly reports malfunctioning or damaged equipment for repair. Determines methods or devises new processes when traditional practice is not sufficient. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed i.e. assuring that limits of safe machine operation are not exceeded and that all tools are used properly. Must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written direction. Must have an understanding of the basic principles of microbiology as they apply to housekeeping operations, especially as they relate to the resistance of microorganisms to external destructive agents. Knowledgeable of cleaning principles and techniques including, different cleaning chemicals and methods, storage, and shelf-life characteristics. Work Schedule: 6am-2:30pm, 3pm-11:30pm, with possible weekends and holidays and rotating tours, based on the needs of the service and medical center Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid (Leader)/PD99913S Physical Requirements: This position requires occasional bending/stooping, crouching, and kneeling. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Approximately 40 percent of time spent standing, 40 percent of time spent walking and 20 percent of time spent sitting. Hearing and visual acuity. Manual dexterity to use a phone and operate equipment.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Dexterity and Safety Interpret Instructions, Specifications (other than blueprint reading) Lead or Supervise Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Work Practices Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
