What you'd do

The Prosthetics Clerk of the Prosthetics &Sensory Aids Service(PSAS) at the James A. Haley VA Hospital and clinics, the individual will serve as the first point of contact for customers, both internally and externally, that require prosthetics serves either face-to-face(Stock Room), by telephone, or by delivery.

Major duties

Include but are not limited to: Dispense off the shelf inventory items to patients, family and providers and accurately stock post the items. Verify eligibility for Prosthetics services through the Prosthetics package prior to issuing out any equipment to a patient, family member or provider. Validates National Prosthetics Patient Database(NPPD) data by ensuring that proper codes are attached, along with correct costing data, vendor demographics to ensure line items are accurate on the patient record and purchase order. Reviews incoming shipments for correct quantities, items and initiates action to correct deficiencies. Review all consults that are submitted to the Prosthetics Department and address all Urgent consults promptly as received. Write RTC(Return to Clinic) orders for the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service to notify veterans of items that must be picked up and fitted in an appointment visit. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/28/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, that equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of this position and that is typically in or related to the position being filled. Specialized experience includes: 1. Inventory all medical equipment in the Storage areas. 2.Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately 3. Pick up, deliver, repair, inventory and return prosthetics medical equipment, (i.e. manual wheelchairs, walkers and accessories) OR, Education: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR, Combination: Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Accountability Attention to Detail Customer Service Decision Making Flexibility Integrity/Honesty Interpersonal Skills Learning Reading Comprehension Reasoning Self-Management Stress Tolerance Teamwork Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work can be sedentary in nature at times but does require moving and lifting equipment up to 60ibs and being able to walk through the hospital for extended periods as required for deliveries. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. The applicant conducts minimally a quarterly inventory of medical equipment stock in compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements.
