Major duties
The National Gallery of Art serves the nation by welcoming all people to explore and experience art, creativity and our shared humanity. The Gallery operates in two monumental buildings and the Sculpture Garden on the National Mall. These facilities are considered national historic landmarks. Facilities Management (AFM) is responsible for managing these buildings and the land on which they sit and AFM performs an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) function -- an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of industry accepted practices. The Facilities Services (AFM-FS) position works closely with an Entomologist in support of IPM operations. Duties for this position include: Researching and evaluating modern pest management devices and practical pest control alternatives for the prevention, mitigation and exclusion of pests. Performing inspections of art containing spaces to identify existing and potential pest issues and making recommendations about appropriate treatment and prevention options. Drafting - for review- comprehensive pest management technical and/or executive reports following major pest management inspections, noting any environmental, sanitation and structural repair issues that are conducive to pest infestations. Inspecting and confirming the validity of pest prevention equipment to ensure that equipment falls within the guidelines of the IPM circular. Remaining current with industry pest management practices and technology through interaction and training with other professional entomologists, consultants, schools, and associations.
What you need to qualify
Specialized Experience Statement: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-07 level in the Federal service or private sector: researching and evaluating modern pest management devices and practical pest control alternatives for the prevention, mitigation or exclusion of pests. OR Nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment. Biological Science Technician Series 0404 Associated Group standard: Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Technical and Medical Support Positions Merit promotion applicants must meet the time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
