What you'd do

Selections for available positions located at Pine Ridge, SD, Kyle, SD and Belcourt, SD. The incumbent will perform routine medical records and coding assignments for claims submission. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). Incentive maybe authorized up to 25% of base pay. Major duties

Confirm the final diagnosis and operative procedures as stated by the Physician are valid and complete. Abstracts all necessary information from the record. Assists facility staff with documentation requirements. *This position is being announced concurrently under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP) and Merit Promotion (MP) procedures. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general and/or specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-04: One (1) year of general experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. or Two (2) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. or Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualification s for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify an applicant for the GS-4 level. GS-05: One (1) year full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: review medical records to gather information on the reasons for admission and length of stay, refer information to quality assurance specialist for accreditation requirement; prepare correspondence and summaries of medical records in response to requests; Select and assign a principle code along with other codes; ensure the medical record is complete for accuracy. or Four (4) years of education above the high school level. or Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level. GS-06: One (1) year full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Enter transaction codes and data for third party billing; Work with automated records systems, data entry and encoder software; collaborate with customers and counter parts to clarify or obtain pertinent medical record information; Use coding conventions, techniques, coding rules and regulations; use of multi automated systems to obtain and code medical record data. GS-07: One (1) year full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Evaluate the medical record for internal consistency and completeness; Responsible for coding the diagnoses, operations and/or procedures from the medical record and entering into the resources and patient management system; Ensure the final diagnosis and operative procedures as slated by the physician are valid and complete; Make final determinations that the record is complete, accurate and reflects sufficient data to justify the diagnosis. Promotion Potential to GS-08 Grade Level Requirements and Condition of Employment: In order to meet the promotion potential and condition of employment for the GS-08 grade level, you must possess the coding certification. Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist by American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and/or by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
