What you'd do
You will serve as a SECRETARY OFFICE AUTOMATION. This position provides efficient administrative operations, including managing the Regional Supervisor (RS) and Deputy Regional Supervisor's (DRS) daily schedule, ensuring phone and reception coverage and supporting the needs for the RS and DRS.
Major duties
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Gulf of America Region, District Field Operations, Houma District in Houma, LA Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: 1. Prepares explanations to support budget requests. Recommends approval or disapproval of expenditure requests based on availability of funds. 2. Examines, validates, and certifies for payment all invoices and supporting documents form contractors/vendors, and credit card purchases. Contacts vendors/contractors to correct any discrepancies and resolve problems. 3. Responsible for the preparation and submission of various accounting, fiscal, and budget reports. Information to prepare the reports and support financial documents is compiled from a variety of sources. 4. Prepares all travel authorizations and travel vouchers for all office personnel traveling on official temporary duty. Ensures compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies which govern travel. 5. Makes travel arrangements for the staff and prepares detailed itineraries for travelers. 6. Oversees the training activity of the section, including coordinating attendance of all regional or in-house training. 7. Prepares training requests and maintains tracking system relative to training for use in planning training and for budget preparation Salary Range Information Per Annum) GS-07: $50,460 (Step 1) - $65,599 (Step 10) First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.
What you need to qualify
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/25/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. All candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the following Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying. Specialized Experience GS-07 To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: Preparing correspondence and/or documents for review; Processing travel documents and ensuring they are in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and policies governing travel; Making purchases for an office; Managing an office budget; Organizing and compiling documents for distribution; Drafting, reviewing, and editing written correspondence to ensure effective content, grammar, and punctuation, and; Managing correspondence and action documents for leadership review and/or signature consistent with agency policy; Must meet 5 out of 7. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
