Major duties

Serves as a team lead and monitor and coordinate the work of Bookbinders, Bindery Machine Operators and Printing Plant Workers. Sets up the equipment by synchronizing the multiple workstations and making precise adjustments for sequencing, timing, and movement between stations to provide a continuous flow of work. Monitors machine control panels and operation to identify processing problems and to detect irregularities. Ensures that all safety rules, regulations, and programs are followed. Coordinates, directs, and monitors the daily priorities and expectations of employees.

What you need to qualify

To qualify for the Bindery Machine Operator Leader, KB-4402-00 position, applicants must meet the following Screen-Out Element: #73 - Ability to Lead Or Supervise Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will not receive further consideration. In addition to the SCREENOUT, applicants must also have the ability to perform the following: Demonstrates mathematical knowledge of basic arithmetic and fractions to accurately determine product counts by weight and make precise measurements using rules, gages, or machine guides. Sets up, operate, and maintain equipment while maintaining required quality standards and published tolerances. Uses hand-tools to make machine adjustments, trim or finish printed materials, and perform minor servicing of equipment. Ensures that all safety rules, regulations, and programs are followed. In addition to the SCREENOUT requirements per GPO 615.2C Federal Merit Promotion Plan (FMPP), Appendix B GPO employees must have completed the following: Completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacant position. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training. -AND- Served a minimum of 1 year in a career or career-conditional appointment in the GPO. Verification must be submitted with application package. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.
