This vacancy is for a GS-1712-11, Training Specialist - Officer of Accessions and Transitions Instructor located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, LDC OFFICER OFFICER ACCESSIONS AND TRANSITIONS DEPARTMENT in NEW LONDON, Connecticut.

Major duties

This position is located in the in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS), Force Readiness Command (FORCECOM), Officer Accessions and Transitions (OA&T) Department of the Leadership Development Center (LDC). The LDC improves mission performance and enhances the Coast Guard's investment in its workforce by: delivering exceptional educational, training, and developmental experiences to leaders; supporting Coast Guard units through leadership and professional development improvement efforts, and identifying future organizational needs through ongoing research and assessment. This position provides training and expertise in the areas of military professional development, leadership, management, health and physical readiness, and professional maritime studies Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Your major duties and responsibilities include: Instructing resident courses for Officer Candidate School, Reserve Officer Candidate Indoctrination Course, Direct Commission Officer Course and Chief Warrant Officer Course. Supporting course administration to include maintaining course learning management system and procurement of course supplies. Conducting staff instructor observations and provides junior instructors with performance coaching. Supports LDC professional development program through supplemental professional growth opportunities. Reviewing course material for accuracy. Maintains all instructional/students materials. Implements and analyzes course surveys for improvements. Serving as the primary point of contact between school house and Leadership Development Center's Performance Support Division. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, you MUST meet all of the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Basic Requirements: Individual Occupational Requirements Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR Specialized Experience:(for positions above GS-5): Experience must demonstrate a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. AND In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must have the following Minimum qualifying specialized experience: MINIMUM QUALIFYING SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Minimum qualifying specialized experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance. GS-1712-11: In order to qualify for this position at the GS-11 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of the minimum qualifying specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-09 level in the federal service. Examples of the minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-09 level include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis: Delivering formal classroom, virtual, experiential, or performance-based training to adult learners using established instructional methods and techniques; Providing coaching, mentoring, counseling, or developmental feedback to students, employees, or trainees to support successful completion of training programs and individual performance improvement ; and Assisting with the development, revision, implementation, or maintenance of curriculum, lesson plans, instructional materials, standard operating procedures, or training program documentation. OR; Education: Successfully completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a major study related to this position. OR; Combination of education and experience : A combination of education and specialized experience may be used to qualify for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. NOTE: All experience statements (i.e., duties, specialized experience, or related applicable assessment) copied from this announcement and pasted into your resume will not be considered as a demonstration of your qualifications for this position. NOTE: Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level.
