What you'd do

This position is located in the DEA, Washington, DC with the Washington Field Division. This position's primary purpose is to assist leadership in the performance of administrative, human resource liaison, internal control, logistics to include fleet, personal property (accountable and non-accountable) and supply management, quality assurance, Records Management, and Task for Officer (TFO) Management.

Major duties

As a Mission Support Specialist your typical work assignments may include: Establishing electronic files and databases, composing correspondence, and assisting with the preparation of reports and briefings on special projects. Preparing requests for personnel actions (also known as SF-52s, RPAs, or PARs), working closely with Headquarters Human Resources Specialist(s) and Management within the Division. Researching and resolving general issues related to employee pay and leave. Performing vehicle management, including ensuring timely maintenance, service, repairs, supplement equipment, and documentation. Conducting periodic inventory of equipment and property utilization. Establishing, files, maintains, purges, and disposes of office records/files in accordance with regulations and procedures. Completing routine logistics functions to include supply management, inventory management, accountable property management, facility management, and transportation and fleet management/maintenance.

Applicants applying for the GS-09 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Overseeing projects related to compliance audit and review programs, policies, procedures, and practices concerning HQ goals and significant areas of interest.; 2) Preparing and processing of confidential employee matters; 3) Carrying out specified segments of specific projects (e.g., data collection and analysis, preparing reports, briefings, etc.); 4) Addressing complex problems or interrelated issues in developing and maintaining a strong administrative program; and 5) Providing guidance to management, recommending actions to ensure the economical and efficient use of equipment and other property. OR B. Education: Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree -or- two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR C. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Applicants applying for the GS-11 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Overseeing projects related to compliance audit and review programs, policies, procedures, and practices concerning HQ goals and significant areas of interest.; 2) Preparing requests for personnel actions (also known as SF-52s, RPAs, or PARs), working closely with Headquarters Human Resources Specialist(s) and Management; 3) Performing vehicle management, including ensuring timely maintenance, service, repairs, supplement equipment, and documentation; 4) Providing guidance to management, recommending actions to ensure the economical and efficient use of equipment and other property; 5) Completing routine logistics functions to include supply management, inventory management, accountable property management, facility management, and transportation and fleet management/maintenance; and 6) Managing the Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) program for the division which includes the Task Force Officers (TFO), task force processes, agreement, and termination of TFO's. OR B. Education: Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree -or- three (3) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related. OR C. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
