College Residence Assistant
What you'd do
This position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a College Residence Assistant you will be responsible for providing assistance in the daily operations of the Residential Hall Program.
Major duties
As a College Residence Assistant, GS-0303-5, your typical work assignments will include the following under supervision: Participate in promoting student involvement opportunities in various engagements in campus student organizations. Assist in planning and implementation of education and recreation programs for residential students. Provide guidance regarding college rules, policies and procedures. Prepare and maintain administrative documents. Conduct inspection rounds of residential hall premises to promote the orderly operation of the residential program and to ensure a safe and secure environment. Must be available for rotational work assignments and holiday staff coverage. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. Incumbent will be scheduled on rotating shifts as needed to provide residential hall coverage over a 24-hour period, seven days a week, with the possible exception of school breaks.

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-05: Possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service that includes: Enforcing rules or policies governing housing operations; monitor environment to ensure student safety and security; organize or promote recreational activities or events; communicate with other staff to resolve problems; and complete daily forms and logs. -OR- Have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in an accredited business or technical school, college or university above high school in any field for which high school graduation or equivalent is a prerequisite. -OR- Have a combination of education and experience described above, which meets 100% of the qualification requirements. The equivalent of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours (beyond the 2nd year of attendance) is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level. Learn more about what is time-in grade.
