What you'd do

You will serve as a Maintenance Supervisor in the Public Works Directorate of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Major duties

You will ensure that the work force, shops, and public works equipment are operating in accordance with all safety practices and procedures. You will use the Single Platform Maximo (SPM) work management system to produce recurring work schedules. You will develop general plans of execution for projects by combining the tasks for each trade into work segments and establishing a logical work sequence. You will make recommendations to solve staffing problems, engineering requirements, and the work operations directed by other supervisors. You will monitor work in progress to evaluate work methods and problems and take corrective action as needed to alleviate delays and loss of productivity and manage costs. You will direct the total shop and exercise administrative authority over the shop personnel. You will perform quality assurance inspections of completed work to ensure work is completed to specifications. You will review completed work orders to catch mistakes and inconsistencies in the data entry of key dates to ensure work is counted correctly when performance indicators are calculated. You will develop metrics to determine and implement process change initiatives, identify performance issues and improve productivity.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE 1) Planning work schedules and sequence of operations for the work force to meet deadlines; 2) Assigning work to subordinates orally, by written instructions, or electronically; 3) Training subordinates in work methods and procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, safety and other regulations established by the Federal Government; AND 4) Inspecting work in progress to ensure productivity, efficiency, and the safety of operations.
