What you'd do

This position is located in the Office of Foreign Policy (OFP) and will be responsible for coordinating interagency policy-related work that impacts DFC operations. The incumbent serves as the policy lead for East Asia & Pacific (EAP), undertaking special projects at the request of the OFP Vice President and the Managing Director of Foreign Policy; and assists with formulation and implementation of major DFC policies, activities, and objectives.

Major duties

As a Policy Officer (EAP), you will: Provide senior leadership and others knowledge, expertise, and counsel on issues and initiatives in the EAP region, including but not limited to DFC's priority sectors; geopolitical and diplomatic issues; regional groupings and strategies; security issues; and countering strategic competition in the region. Provide such knowledge, expertise, and counsel through timely and cogent written briefings, verbal briefings, and other staffing for internal and external stakeholder, to include Congress and the media. Coordinate and collaborate with country and regional colleagues in adjacent U.S. government agencies (especially with State Department, U.S. Embassies, Treasury, Commerce, EXIM, Department of War, and USTDA). Assist DFC business colleagues to identify and mitigate issues impacting DFC's investments, especially when issues can be mitigated by liaising with foreign governments. What you need to qualify

Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level). Applicants must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements no later than the closing date of this announcement. TIME-IN-GRADE: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your experience in all of the following: Experience coordinating with the interagency on political, economic, commercial, development and/or national security issues related to the Eastern Asia and Pacific region; and Experience preparing thorough, written documents for principal briefings and communicating and interacting with high-level officials. Note: Education is not substitutional at this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This announcement may be used to fill similar positions, if additional vacancies occur.
