Major duties

Serving as a Deputy Assistant Director (Mission and Readiness Support Directorate) GS-0301-15 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate (MRSD) in Glynco, Georgia. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct, direct, and oversee operational planning and execution, as well as formulate and implement policies within the following management lines of business: acquisitions, asset and logistics, environmental and sustainability, facilities management, procurement, safety, student support services, real property management, and training venue administration and maintenance. Typical duties include: Advising and assisting FLETC MRSD Assistant Director and other senior leaders and agency officials in carrying out FLETC's law enforcement training mission by effectively and efficiently managing these program areas. Directing the development and presentation of FLETC responses to inquiries from Congress, OMB, DHS, Government Accountability Office, Office of Personnel Management and other government entities regarding the full range of mission and readiness support services related matters. Represents FLETC at meetings, gatherings, and forums where extensive briefings to senior officials on current and evolving mission and readiness support-related matters will be given. Supervising directorate program staff through subordinate division chiefs. Determining the resources to devote to various program(s). Making and effecting recommendations regarding significant internal and external programs that affect the DHS and FLETC. Establishing long-range goals, objectives, and plans for the directorate and making adjustments based upon changes in legislation, program authority, and/or funding. Planning, prioritizing and scheduling completion of work; assigning specific duties to subordinates; setting performance standards; evaluating performance; providing advice and counsel to subordinate employees on technical and administrative matters; interviewing and selecting candidates for vacant positions; identifying and providing for the training needs of subordinate staff; articulating and advocating the maintenance of a safe, healthy work environment; and ensuring observance of equal employment opportunity and affirmative employment policies. All experience listed below is required in order to be considered for the position. Leading, directing, and overseeing operational planning and execution, as well as formulating and implementing policies across multiple management lines of business, including acquisitions, asset and logistics management, environmental and sustainability programs, facilities management, safety, student support services, procurement, real property management, and training venue administration and maintenance, preferably within a large, multi-site organization. Advising and assisting senior leaders and agency officials in the effective and efficient management of mission and readiness support programs, ensuring alignment with organizational mission, vision, goals, and strategies. Serving as a principal advisor to senior leadership on policy and program implications, including those originating from higher headquarters (e.g., DHS, OMB, GSA) and other federal agencies, and developing a culture of conscientious stewardship regarding organizational assets and services. Directing the development and presentation of organizational responses to inquiries from oversight bodies such as Congress, OMB, DHS, GAO, OPM, and other government entities on matters related to mission and readiness support services. Supervising program staff through subordinate managers, including establishing long-range goals and objectives, allocating resources, setting performance standards, evaluating performance, providing technical and administrative guidance, and ensuring compliance with equal employment opportunity and affirmative employment policies. NOTE: Education may not be subsistuted to this series or grade. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
