Gardener (Tractor Operator)
What you'd do
This located in Golden Gate National Recreation Area, in the Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety and range of gardening work using independent judgement within the framework of good gardening practices. Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.
Major duties
The major duties of the Gardener (Tractor Operator) position include, but are not limited to, the following: Utilize a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the landscape maintenance. Adjust and make necessary repairs on computer-controlled Irrigation Systems. Perform minor repairs on park furnishings benches, picnic tables, grills. Service and maintain trails and roads in safe conditions. Perform routine maintenance at different sites and visitor facilities, to include cleaning restrooms, trash collect, graffiti abatement. May perform other duties such as directing volunteer groups, assisting with large pruning projects or irrigation system repairs.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of materials Dexterity and Safety If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
