What you'd do
About the Position: Serves as a Traffic Management Specialist for the Army Transportation Command as a technical expert on the safe and secure transportation and storage of all Department of Defense domestic freight.
Major duties
Advise senior leaders domestic transportation systems policies, regulations and procedures. Design domestic transportation training (in-person and virtual) for shippers, carriers, and stakeholders. Evaluate operations to recommend improvements for shipping efficiency, timelines, and cost savings. Advise leadership on domestic surface transportation and participates in working groups to maintain global readiness. Identify training needs based on performance metrics and manages a public webpage to house instructional materials. Draft long-range plans and updates to critical publications to ensure authoritative guidance is current and aligned with program goals.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; (1) Interpret transportation policies and regulations so that DoD agencies and commercial carriers move materials through the Defense Transportation System efficiently. 2) Design targeted training sessions for Command shippers and commercial partners so that they understand domestic transportation topics in order to improve their performance metrics. 3) Represent the Command on working groups so that we maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders to secure global network readiness. 4) Evaluate freight management system data and shipping contracts to implement cost-effective cargo operations policies for the Command. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service (GS-12). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
