What you'd do

This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services (textile distribution and inventory activity, sanitizing, e.g.,). Work is regularly performed by hand and with light and heavy-powered (industrial-type) cleaning equipment (scrubbers, buffers, spray) disinfecting equipment, and vacuum cleaners)

Major duties

The Housekeeping Aid executes a full range of housekeeping activities in patient and non-patient care areas. The position may be assigned to any tour and may be required to work in various designated areas during any tour of duty. Typically, the position works independently with general supervision or works with a team and is responsible for the full-range of cleaning duties in an assigned area throughout the medical facility. These duties include, but are limited to the following: Performs infection control and hazardous waste procedures, following proper task sequences to remove soiled and contaminated textiles, needle boxes, and body fluid spills, and understands the process of handling biohazardous waste. Identifies different types of medical, non-medical, biohazardous, hazardous, and normal waste to properly carry out duties. Cleans and replaces needle boxes in accordance with safety standards. Cleans reusable medical equipment (RME) in inpatient and clinical areas according to established procedures. Adjusts, cleans, and performs minor maintenance on equipment, including changing attachments for proper use and optimal results. Utilizes pressure washers and industrial-powered equipment to complete cleaning tasks effectively. Operates light and heavy industrial cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, to perform assigned duties. Cleans restrooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms, ensuring they meet acceptable sanitation standards by disinfecting and deodorizing fixtures and surfaces. Works independently or as part of a team to complete the full range of cleaning duties across assigned areas of the medical facility. Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and soap in designated areas. Reads, writes, and performs simple math to accurately record waste and laundry handling processes. Work Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday - 3:00PM-11:30pm (Subject to change based on the needs of the Agency) Position Description Title/PD#: Environmental Services Technician (EVS) - Housekeeping Aid - Wednesday - Sunday Second Shift/PD99909S and PD99909S Physical Requirements: he position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy-powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial-type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
