What you'd do

This position reports to Deputy Chief, Facilities Management Service, VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System and is located Sierra Nevada Health Care System, Reno, Nevada.

Major duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides consulting services on requirements and code requirements for materials proposed in renovation, modernization and new construction for major, minor and non-recurring maintenance construction projects. Serves as a trouble-shooter on unique problems or in the resolution of design problems to improve or enhance operations or improve facility ergonomics and wayfinding. Assists and advises on ergonomic issues and employee accommodation products, and agency responsibilities, etc. Improvement of employee work environments - offices, labs, kitchens, shops, industrial, laundry, warehouse, garages, etc. Prepares conceptual drawings, floor plans, finish schedules, furniture replacement schedules. Participates in the initial space planning with facility planner(s) to ensure space is adequate for furnishings that are needed. Serves as a member of the Ergonomics work group. Initiates and aids in development of all station construction projects furnishings and finishes. Responsible for the design, cost estimates, inspecting the work and certifying that the final product meets project specifications except where substitutes were accepted from project specifications. Addresses historic preservation issues in conjunction with consultants as required. Evaluates requests and developing long and short-term interior improvement projects. Administers service contacts for interior design projects were required such as the installation of artwork, carpet, window treatments, custom millwork and systems furniture, etc. Develops and maintains a comprehensive resource library of interior design literature consisting of contract and non-contract literature dealing with all aspects of the design field. What you need to qualify

To apply for this position, you must have the following qualifications: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS 9) in the Federal Service. Qualifying specialized experience requires the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context; managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related, with major study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combination of creditable specialized experience and graduate education as described above to meet the total requirements for the position. AND This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration.
