What you'd do

About the Position: Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 3 years may be extended to 5 years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however, return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.

Major duties

Independently evaluate each aviator's performance in accordance with published standards as satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Conduct instrument training and instrument flight evaluation. Demonstrate objectivity and ability to provide constructive comments using approved methods of instruction. Evaluate planning operations and the conduct of cross-country flights. Review, revise, and develop training test and instructional material. Perform periodic proficiency flights in the simulator to maintain the pilot skills necessary to demonstrate flight techniques and procedures. Use approved evaluation guidelines. Review records to verify that individual(s) to be evaluated meets all prerequisites and ensures all required equipment is available for the flight. Incumbent conducts oral examination to determine if individual has a working knowledge and understanding of applicable topics. Incumbent conducts duties that involve planning and evaluation of rated pilots, instructors, or instrument examiners. Conduct both ground instruction/evaluations and in-flight instruction/evaluations. Correspond with contract logistic support personnel to ensure the serviceability and availability of the simulator for training.

Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); 2) Supervising or administering a training program; 3) Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, tools and evaluation of training results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: aeronautical technology or aeronautical science or degree in other related fields. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
