What you'd do

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Major duties

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Duties may include but are not limited to: Assess, consult, and treat patients with podiatric disorders requiring podiatry opinion or intervention, in the outpatient settings. The Podiatrist is responsible for diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients in both settings, as appropriate for care of those patients. In some instances, the podiatrist will assess, diagnose, and make recommendations to primary care or other specialty services regarding management and follow-up of the patient. It is the responsibility of the primary care or specialty provider to review and implement the Podiatrist recommendations based on the primary care or specialty provider's clinical judgment. Interpretation of radiological testing and other specialty imaging to establish diagnosis and assist in management of the patient's condition. Assess the individual patient for appropriateness for podiatric intervention/procedure by evaluating the risks and benefits related to the patient's condition. Active participation in "Prevention of Amputation in Veterans Everywhere" (PAVE) Program. Provide consultative support to primary care regarding the screening of at-risk populations and addressing the clinical needs of high-risk patients. Podiatric surgical intervention within the scope of podiatric privileges at the Aleda E. Lutz VAMC and Ambulatory Surgery Complexity Matrix. Act as the consultant for patients referred to him/her for input regarding podiatric opinion or intervention. He/she will consult on those conditions in the CLC setting. The Podiatrist will be responsible for the management podiatric surgical patients in conjunction with primary care, medicine, or surgery as appropriate. The Podiatrist will work with these specialties to facilitate transfer to a tertiary facility if necessary. What you need to qualify

Podiatrist Basic Requirements Citizenship: Candidates must be a United States citizen. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.) Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Residency: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ License: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Podiatrists appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d), 7407(d). Staff Requirements: Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required if performing podiatric surgical procedures in the surgical suite. The full performance level of this vacancy is a GS-15 Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. This position requires moderate lifting up to 44 lbs., carrying objects up to 15 lbs., frequent reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, hands and legs, use of cranes and motor vehicles, walking & standing up to 8 hours, bending and climbing and able to hear whisper. The incumbent must be physically, emotionally and mentally stable in order to efficiently perform the essential functions of this position without hazard to themselves or others.
