What you'd do

You will serve as a HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (HRD/OA) in the G-1 DIVISION of MARINE CORPS BASE.

Major duties

You will select appropriate participants for training courses based on subject-matter relatedness to mission when there are space limitations. You will locate and contact local suitable subject-matter experts as replacement instructions for recurring training programs. You will select films for local training. You will demonstrate the use of self-teaching equipment. You will screen applicants for prerequisites. You will revise questionnaires to survey employee interest in specific training. You will interview interns/upward mobility program participants to ascertain progress, continued interest and to identify any problems, and make minor course substitutions to schedule conflicts. You will review and summarize comments on surveys/course critiques. You will screen calls and visitors, provide necessary information or refer specialists when higher level assistance is required. You will respond to routine inquiries on procedures for filing requests for training concerning timeliness, documentation and signature requirements. You will provide status of training requests to employees, supervisors and managers. You will resolve clerical problems based on knowledge of staff assignments, commitments, deadlines, operating policies, and unit priorities. You will prepare varied documents using the advanced functions of work processing, desktop publishing and other software types. You will apply publishing capabilities to enhance the impact and effectiveness of such items as reports, presentation, briefing material, training material, and scientific or technical study papers. You will resolve problems involving the interpretation of drafts by contacting the originator or by relying on previous experience. You will edit material and make necessary corrections in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and format. You will maintain documents in electronic file for easy retrieval. You will maintain and update computer user manuals, reference books, and operating handbooks. You will integrate data from various types of software to produce final products which are accurate and meet the needs of the office. You will develop and/or modify database management systems to perform such office operations as tracking various actions while developing methods for automating administrative and special reports.

What you need to qualify

Your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing limited clerical work involving requirements, procedures, functions to process documents, preparing reports, explaining personnel procedures, AND maintaining records.
