Maintenance Worker
What you'd do
This position serves as a Maintenance Worker. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition at management's discretion.
Major duties
The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Performs plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets, and various types of pipe and copper lines. Cut and thread pipes and winterizes water systems. Utilizes a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the plumbing trade. Performs electrical tasks involving making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures. Utilizes hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills and soldering irons. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic). Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment combined with Knowledge of Equipment Assembly and Repair Knowledge of Materials combined with Use of Measuring Instruments If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
