What you'd do

This position functions as the program support assistant within the Administrative Medicine Service and Community Care and Occupational Health of Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS). The primary purpose of the position is to provide support for the day- to-day administrative and clerical needs supporting the Service in support of program goals, objectives and service needs. The incumbent supports an array of technical, training, research, planning, and administrative activities.

Major duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs a variety of administrative and support type duties in such areas as administration, budget, records and files management, property accountability and reports. Monitor/track credentials and licensing requirements for professional staff assigned to Administrative Medicine Service, revises, analyzes and evaluates the accomplishments of various office administrative functions, such as records management, reports control, forms control and administrative standard operating procedures. Coordinate, monitor and gather Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations(FPPE) for credentialed providers. This includes completing the supporting quality data needed for these evaluations. Serve as the primary Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC) and primary PIV sponsor for the supported sections and provide backup coverage to the Medical Service. Receive and respond to routine telephone inquiries. Serve as back up Timekeeper and is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and timely submission of Time & Attendance reports for each employee whose record has been assigned to their jurisdiction. Performs work involving the collection, formatting, basic analysis, compilation, and/or tracking of a wide variety of data and statistical information in support of an organization's program operation. Assists in the planning, review, and reporting of data/statistical results and data capturing processes for program/project studies. Coordinates and manages all supplies, telephone and computer moves within Administrative Medicine Service. Obtains and monitors the use of services, supplies, or equipment for the office. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. work schedule, but work schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the service. Telework: Authorized Virtual: This is not a virtual position. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/22/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Maintaining confidentiality of information in accordance with the Privacy Act; Provides quality control checks on data; managing due outs, priorities and meets deadlines; using software applications for collection, formatting, basic analysis and compilation data, file maintenance and data retrieval; and general office supply and equipment support services. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office.
