WELDER LEADER
What you'd do
You will serve as a WELDER LEADER in the Machine Shop Branch (Code 1440.2) Production Division (Code 1440) in the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (Code 1400) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Major duties
You will provide technical direction to welders, shipfitters and helpers in the manufacture and repair of propeller and propulsor components utilized on naval vessels. You will perform electric arc welding utilizing various processes, such as mig, tig and shielded electrode, in the repair and manufacture of propeller and propulsor components. You will utilize gauges tools and equipment used in the welder trade, such as regulators, flowmeters, rectifiers, pneumatic grinders, hand tools, etc. You will inform supervision of work progress and status including actual or potential work problems and possible work delays. Ability to use dew point analyzers, purging dams, oxygen analyzers, manometers and various contour and weldment size gages, Ability to utilize gauges tools and equipment used in the welder trade, such as regulators, flowmeters, rectifiers, pneumatic grinders, hand tools, etc. Ability to make decisions on problems encountered in routine operations, provide technical and supervisory direction to welders, shipfitters and helpers in the manufacture and repair of propeller and propulsor components and castings utilized on naval vessels and the fabrication of weldments. Ability to use approved methods and procedures to meet welding specification requirements. Ability to answer questions on welder procedures, policies, instructions, or other directives and checking in work in progress. Ability to operate complicated mechanical, electrical and pneumatic equipment and instruments. Ability to interpret work instructions and job orders, setting the pace and demonstrating proper work methods. Ability to perform electric arc welding utilizing various processes, such as mig, tig and shielded electrode, in the repair and manufacture of propeller and propulsor components, castings and weldments.
