Major duties

Plans, films, and edits video productions for a variety of projects. Creates retouched images and intricate composites suitable for official portraits of government officials. Conceptualizes and captures images using various photographic methods, standards, and equipment. Prints high-quality photos, ensuring timely delivery of materials. Assesses color, density, and contrast in photographic images by applying principles of color theory to enhance visual appeal, and employs skilled batch imagery processing and metadata ingesting techniques. Maintains and cleans equipment, ensuring optimal functionality. Other duties as assigned.

What you need to qualify

Other Duties/ Responsibilities Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and clients. Required Work Experience Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience working with photography and videography. Required Special Skills/ Knowledge Utilizes diverse photography techniques (e.g., photojournalism, studio portraiture) for high-profile events, private functions, and public officials. Adaptable in high-pressure situations and well-versed in executive-level protocol. Ability to retouch imagery and create intricate composites suitable for official portraits for government officials and historical archives. Technical acumen to operate, configure, and fix video, audio, lighting, or other production equipment. Demonstrated skill with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Photo Mechanic, and the Microsoft Office suite on PC and Apple platforms. Multitasking skills for working with many crew members at once. Creative thinking with an excellent eye for detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with clients and members of the production team. Physical ability to move and hold recording equipment for long periods. Understanding of computer software used for planning, editing, and scripting. Organization to manage time efficiently. Knowledge of photographic principles including composition and technical techniques. Manual dexterity, physical mobility, and some physical strength/stamina are required. As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role. Desired Qualifications Experience producing modern short-form video for digital platforms, including interviews, event highlights, stand-ups, b-roll, and mobile-first visual storytelling. Strong working knowledge of video production workflows, including planning, camera operation, lighting, audio capture, editing, captioning, color correction, and digital delivery. Demonstrated ability to use emerging production tools, efficient editing techniques, and platform-aware formats to create polished video products under deadline pressure. Skilled still photographer with experience in photojournalism, event coverage, corporate/marketing, or public affairs environments. Solid understanding of composition, lighting, image editing, and metadata workflows. Ability to work calmly and professionally in high-visibility or sensitive environments requiring discretion, adaptability, sound judgment, and executive-level protocol awareness. Technical proficiency with Creative Cloud applications and DaVinci Resolve. Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities and collaborate effectively with clients, subjects, supervisors, and production teammates. Strong visual portfolio demonstrating creative judgment, technical competence, attention to detail, and professional video and photography work. Working Conditions Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. Schedule fluctuates and the employee is expected to work early mornings, late evenings, and weekends, with little to no notice. Some traveling may be required. Moderate (carrying of items less than 50 pounds); work requires the employee to be outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; work requires frequent physical effort such as walking, bending, crawling, and standing for long durations; working on ladders, scaffolding, or stages; and working in confined spaces (bending and crawling).
