Major duties

You will coordinate and direct the control of air traffic within assigned air space and vehicular traffic operating on runways, taxiways, and other designated movement areas of the airfield. You will brief the tower watch on weather conditions, traffic, equipment status, and field conditions. You will ensure that all controllers meet and maintain published requirements for currency on each applicable qualified operating position. You will evaluate student controllers through written and verbal critiques. You will study and provide advice on proposed changes to procedures, airspace configuration, training and airport systems. You will participate in formal and informal meetings and conferences with senior level military and civilian agencies concerning proposals for revised procedures, training or systems. You will sequence and apply appropriate separation between aircraft under the Control Tower's responsibility. You will maintain continual surveillance and operation of airport movement surfaces to ensure pedestrian, vehicle, and aircraft compliance with operating rules. You will train student air traffic controllers in any or all of these duties on an individual basis and ensure safe, proper, application of service while instructing the student in technique and procedures.

What you need to qualify

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: experience as a full performance level tower controller providing air traffic control services in the Terminal Environment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
