About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), DEPT of Quality/Patient Safety at Bethesda, Maryland. Quality Directorate suite, BLDG 1, 2nd floor Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Major duties

Support the Military Treatment Facility Healthcare Quality team with the Patient Safety (PS) program ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements to meet organizational needs. Assist in preparing for surveys/inspections and may serve as an internal resource and liaison to accrediting/inspection agencies. Aid with tracking and disseminating applicable Sentinel Event Alerts published by the Joint Commission. Coordinate with the collection of organization data to support the development of performance indicators under the MTF strategic plan, including coordinating and facilitating meetings and collecting and presenting applicable data at said meetings. Attend to MTF Patient Safety Manager and Quality Services team with maintaining the organization’s healthcare PS activities. Assist with the processing and review of over 2000 annual events in the Joint Patient Safety Reporting System (JPSR), to include management of reports, queries, and processing of applications for access to the system. Assist with the tracking of due dates of all Serious Reportable Events, including reporting to and submission of final reports to the Defense Health Agency and The Joint Commission.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying problems with health care processes and recommending alternatives to improve processes; preparing administrative policies and procedures for implementation; assists in the preparation of the annual budget; and identifying significant trends and issues regarding health care services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
