About the Position: Serve as a Supervisory Firefighter with the Directorate of Emergency Service at Fort Riley, Kansas. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Major duties
Serves as Battalion chief with responsibility for the operational readiness and organizational maintenance of fire fighting equipment. Schedules workload for each 24-hour shift and checks on progress of work to be accomplished. Responds with fire companies to fires, crash emergencies, emergency medical situations, and hazardous materials spills/situations. Ensures all scheduled fire inspections and all associated reports are completed. Instructs and drills fire fighters in basic and advanced fire fighting techniques ensuring all aspects of training subject meets minimum standards of applicable NFPA Professional Firefighter Qualification.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Directing crewmembers in firefighting activities; 2) Responding to alarms to perform firefighting tasks; 3) Performing emergency medical procedures to stabilize patients; 4) Assigning maintenance tasks to maintain operational readiness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you mush meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accountability Computer Literacy Emergency Communication Managing Human Resources Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess: Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Wildland Firefighter II, State or National Registry EMT License and Airport Firefighter certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.
