The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician for our Deputy Chief of Staff position. This position is open to current VHA employees in surgical specialties. Preferred candidates will have advanced clinical experience as well as demonstrated administrative and leadership skills.

Major duties

The Deputy Chief of Staff's responsibilities include serving as the lead physician during absence of the Chief of Staff. The incumbent will work with the clinical service chiefs and performance measure champions to improve processes to meet the performance measure goals and improve utilization management. Reviews requests for contracts and helps determine the best way to obtain the required resources. When problems arise with transfers into and out of the Robert J. Dole VAMC, works with service chiefs, residents, transfer coordinators, as well as the other facilities as needed to effectively coordinate transfers. The Deputy supervises a variety of staff, who are aligned under the Chief of Staff Office, and serves on a broad spectrum of medical center committees, task forces, etc. Allocation will be 40% administrative and 60% clinical in the discipline of the incumbent's board certification. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. What you need to qualify

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Physical Requirements: Light lifting, under 15 pounds, light carrying under 15 pounds, pulling hand over hand for 1.5 hours (varies), pushing, 1 hour (varies), reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (6 hours- varies), standing (8 hours- varies), repeated bending (4 hours varies), use of hands and fingers, the ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 12" to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4, hearing (aid permitted).
