About the Position: This position serves as a Security Assistant for United States Army Installation Management Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. This position is a Time Limited Assignment, not to exceed 3 years.

Major duties

Provide automation support to the Security Office by providing word-processing, database mgt, email, and related functions in support of the staff. Process a variety of queries in automated system to provide timely response as required in support of the mission. Operate various items of access control equipment to include computer equipment for used identification and registration process. Screen all personnel daily to determine status of an individual and reason for and location of visit.

Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Utilizing all screening procedures of personnel requesting access to the installation; 2) maintaining security information through use of various databases and computer programs; and 3) assisting with record keeping or routine filing of documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Advancement to positions up to GS-5. Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 3 years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
