About the Position: This position serves as a senior planning specialist responsible for leading the development, analysis, and coordination of strategic concept, crisis action, and global integration plans within the command's Area of Responsibility (AOR). The incumbent performs complex, interdisciplinary analyses to resolve critical operational issues and crafts strategic policy, decision tools, and senior-level briefings to align military missions with national security objectives.
Major duties
Develops, plans, coordinates, and presents command positions on concept, crisis action, and global integration plans affecting joint and interagency partners. Supports steady state, contingency, and crisis action planning through the expert application of planning principles for developing and reviewing plans, policies, and strategies. Serves as a planning specialist, performing broad analytical efforts to develop plans, strategy, programs, and policies related to military missions. Provides interdisciplinary analytical capability to research and resolve broad, undefined, and complex issues of a special or recurring nature. Develops practical and innovative solutions to identified problems based on knowledge of the organization's long and short-term goals. Assists component commands and Security Cooperation Offices with the development and interpretation of strategic plans. Develops position papers, decision tools, and formal briefings for integration into mission planning at the strategic and operational levels. Presents formal briefings on the results of analytical projects to senior officials within the command and other external agencies.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service which includes applying knowledge and expertise of military planning to develop, analyze, and review concept, crisis, and global integration plans. This includes experience developing and presenting command positions on plans affecting the Office of the Secretary of War (OSW) and Joint Staff, conducting broad analytical efforts to develop strategy and policy for military missions within the Area of Responsibility (AOR), and providing interdisciplinary analytical capability to resolve complex issues. This also includes experience developing position papers and decision tools for mission planning and presenting formal briefings on project results to senior leadership. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail Decision Making Flexibility Integrity/Honesty Interpersonal Skills Reading Comprehension Reasoning Self-Management Teamwork Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
