Financial Accounts Technician
What you'd do
The Financial Technician in the Fiscal Service at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. This position provides a broad range of administrative , technical, and budget work support services in the areas of travel management, procurement, financial reconciliation, and program coordination. The work requires a thorough understanding of the Federal Travel Regulation (FTR), VA Financial Policy, and applicable acquisition and fiscal procedures.
Major duties
The duties of the Financial Technician include but are not limited to: Serves as the primary administrative, technical and budget support for the facility's travel program, Plans and carries out procedures when travelers do not comply with regulations. Monitors and facilitates the travel card program. Examines incoming requests for completeness, verifies accounting codes, item descriptions, and estimated costs, and uses web-based systems to identify sources of supply. Serves as the Agency/Organization Program Coordinator (AOPC) for the Government Travel Charge Card Program, ensuring compliance with VA Financial Policy and GSA SmartPay requirements. Resolves travel problems, explains aspects of the travel program and generally assist all VA and non-VA employees in travel status. Applies established procedures to standard travel scenarios; refers complex or unusual cases for high level review. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/29/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-0503-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-0503-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Award 50's do not provide sufficient information and will not be accepted for the purpose of verifying time-in-grade. Examples of appropriate SF-50's include: Within grade increases at the highest grade held; or Promotions with an effective date more than one year old; or SF-50's at the highest grade held with an effective date more than one year old. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Qualifying Experience at the GS-6 level: GS-06 Specialized Experience: Do you possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience, which equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Financial Accounts Technician, GS-06 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, this specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service to qualify at the GS-06. Qualifying specialized experience includes: 1) Assists screening tickets, itineraries, travel periods and information related to rental cars. 2) Processes routine travel authorizations and vouchers 3) Uses automated systems such as ConcurGov, IFCAP/VistA, and FMS for data entry and report generation. 4) Serving as a Government Purchase Cardholder. 5) Ability to review and process employee expense reports. Qualifying Experience at the GS-7 level: GS-07 Specialized Experience: Do you possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience, which equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Financial Accounts Technician, GS-07 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, this specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-06 level in Federal service to qualify at the GS-07. Qualifying specialized experience includes: 1) Screening tickets, itineraries, travel periods and information related to rental cars. 2) Reconciles orders and vouchers on a monthly basis. 3) Experience interpreting VA travel guidelines 4) Serving as a Government Purchase Cardholder. 5) Reviewing and processing employee expense reports. Note: Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held on your resume. You must provide work experience information such as hours per week, salary, and starting/ending dates of employment (month and year format) to establish you have one (1) full year of Specialized Experience at or comparable to the required grade level.
