What you'd do
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Supervisor (Inpatient Operations) is a Pharmacy Program Manager (PPM) responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients in ambulatory care clinics, inpatient clinical wards/units, and long-term care settings as assigned within the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System (VALLHCS). The Inpatient Operations CPS Supervisor functions at the highest level of clinical pharmacy practice to provide pharmaceutical care topatients and optimize patient care outcomes.
Major duties
Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Supervisor duties include but are not limited to: Designing, implementing, assessing, monitoring, and documenting therapeutic plans Utilizing best evidence and the most effective, least toxic, and most economical medication treatments Helping achieve positive patient-centric outcomes through direct and indirect interactions with patients, providers, and interdisciplinaryteams in assigned areas Performing physical assessments Ordering laboratory and other tests to help determine efficacy and toxicity of medication therapy Maintains, monitors, and corrects problems of workflow within assignment areas Develops policies and procedures leading to the safe and cost-effective use of medications in the specialized pharmacy program Documents in the medical record recommendations, concerns, and potential medication related issues to communicate these concerns to other health care providers Supervises and trains pharmacy residents, students, and technicians. Basic Requirements: Citizenship: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. (NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree program. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. A pharmacist who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16. English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Grade Determinations: GS-13 Pharmacy Supervisor: Applicants must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12). In addition, applicants must meet the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy. Skill in managing people or programs Preferred Experience: Extensive and/or current experience in supervisory functions as related to a hospital inpatient pharmacy. Physical Requirements: Employees are typically expected to work forty hours per week. This may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as assigned. Principal duties require repetitive use of hands and fingers (for example, preparing IV admixtures, using a computer keyboard). Duties may require lifting and carrying light loads, including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions; stooping or kneeling (for example, to pick up items from the floor, remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); and sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time. Normal ranges of hearing and vision are required to perform work and communicate effectively; the incumbent must have the visual ability to distinguish between basic colors and shades of color. The ability to perform tasks requiring rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously is necessary. The incumbent must be physically capable of operating various types of equipment used for the job.
