About the Position: This position is located at Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson, Colorado in Behavioral Health. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized.
Major duties
Perform professional counseling and addiction medicine treatment in support of patients with an alcohol and substance abuse diagnosis. Make clinical assessments to apply complex rehabilitation treatment services. Develop treatment plans that incorporate psychological theory, counseling techniques, and goals needed to restore patients to their normal work and social environment. Provide strategic interventions, motivational interviewing techniques and crisis counseling for patients and families. Conduct ongoing review of patient progress and evaluate and modify treatment plans to meet changing needs. Document case records consistent with clinical standards of care. Provide training and/or supervision using professional knowledge of procedures and practices related to the addiction medicine outpatient program and Army Substance Abuse Program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Counseling Psychologist (Substance Abuse): Degree: Satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology is required. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting clinical assessments of substance abuse patients, formulating behavioral health treatment plans and providing professional counseling to substance abuse patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. License: A current, active, valid, unrestricted counseling/psychologist license from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.
