HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
What you'd do
You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Lifting & Handling Department (700), Deputy Lifting & Handling Dept (701), Crane Maintenance Division (730) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Major duties
You will find ways to correct defects when existing methods and procedures do not give desired results. You will adjust items and systems to assure proper operation of complete systems or vehicles. You will drive various types of government vehicles and operate various types of government equipment for maintenance purposes. You will make changes or modifications in accordance with specifications and guidelines.
What you need to qualify
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. Ability to articulate understanding, knowledge and skill to co-workers on heavy mobile systems and components. Ability to understand operational theory, check-out procedures, and apply skills to perform heavy mobile equipment mechanic work. Ability to utilize heavy mobile systems and equipment.Ability to demonstrate trade theory and techniques.
