About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center located at Fort Hood, Texas. Major duties
Complete screening of patients to include recording chief complaint, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, weight, measure and record intake and output, and notify a medical professional of abnormal readings. Apply antiseptic solution for immunizations/skin testing; apply and remove bandages, binders, simple dressings, and hot and cold packs; and physically assist patients in walking, moving, and changing positions. Administer immunizations to patients, from infant to geriatric, as ordered; and observe, document, and report to the medical professional any signs or symptoms of impending reactions. Obtain capillary blood samples and urine samples, perform urine dipstick, input lab requests in the appropriate medical database system, and direct the patient to the lab while ensuring proper documentation is completed. Perform general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging supply carts; cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment; reporting deficiencies in supplies and equipment; and cleaning utility rooms. Receive requests for appointment by telephone, writing, or in person; verify patient eligibility for treatment; and schedule appointments with the appropriate clinic and health care provider.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Medical Technician (Certified Medical Assistant): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining patient medical records and educating patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
