About the Position: This position is located in the Uniform Business Office (UBO), Resource Management Division (RMD), and Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), to support and manage the UBO Program, Medical Service Accounts Office (MSAO). Responsible for all phases of the MSAO billing program and follows all potential sources from date of visit/hospitalization to billing completion. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Major duties

Determine appropriate itemized billing amounts and uses medical coding systems (e.g., CPT-4, ICD-10) to ensure maximum reimbursement from insurance carriers. Review patient accounts, prepares invoices, processes payments, and manages delinquent accounts to ensure timely reimbursement. Explain billing procedures and insurance benefits to patients and insurance companies and assists in completing necessary forms. Contact insurance companies to verify patient eligibility, coverage, and obtains pre-authorizations or certifications as required. Analyze and resolve billing discrepancies, claim denials, and payment errors by reviewing medical records, financial reports, and correspondence. Receive and respond to a wide variety of correspondence and telephone inquiries from third-party insurance carriers and beneficiaries regarding the billing program. Prepare and write appeal letters with supporting documentation to challenge claim denials or request reconsideration of payment.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working with commercial insurance carriers to identify patients with Other Health Insurance (OHI); updating insurance information in electronic health record to process patient accounts for billing; analyzing medical records to resolve billing discrepancies and process third-party claims; communicating with patients and insurance carriers to resolve billing and claims inquiries. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Health Information, Health Administration, Business Administration, Accounting or Finance. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
