This vacancy is for a GS-0080-12, Security Specialist (Port) located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Northeast District, Sector New York, Emergency Force Readiness Branch in Staten Island, New York. This is a Term Appointment not to exceed 13 Months. However, an extension of up to 4 years total is possible.
Major duties
You will serve as a Security Specialist (Port) and be responsible for Port Safety and Security Planning, including exercise planning with the Captain of the Port zone assigned. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing and validating plans for the effective and efficient response to all port safety and security contingencies for which the Coast Guard and community will respond. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Developing and managing port, vessel, and facility security contingency plans and appropriate annexes. Coordinating with Port Safety Committee, Harbor Safety Committee, or subcommittees thereof, and District and Area Planning agents to establish the proper level of participation in port security plan development and exercises. Developing, coordinating, and participating in port, vessel, facility, and security exercises, recommending appropriate remedial actions, when necessary. What you need to qualify
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal or private sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Specialized experience may include the following: Investigating and analyzing a variety of unusual problems, questions, or conditions associated with port safety and security planning. Recommending and implementing remedies for port safety and security concerns. Participating in port safety and security exercises. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
