What you'd do

Major duties
You will conceive, plan, develop, analyze, and lead far-reaching policy studies or projects. You will develop white papers and other authoritative documents which may result in publication or recommendation of major changes in the National Nuclear Security Administration policy or program direction. You will resolve controversial, unprecedented, and/or significant scientific/engineering problems/issues. You will lead ad-hoc teams comprised of leading scientists and engineers in government and the private sector in the participation of such studies. You will serve at the direction of senior management in a technical advisory capacity, and as personal representative in meetings, panels, task forces, and conferences.
What you need to qualify
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the BN-03 pay band (GS-13 equivalency) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as s professional engineer applying knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of naval nuclear propulsion, mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering applicable to the full range of engineering duties concerned with the administration, management, planning, and evaluation of contractor activities involving health and safety precautions, propulsion plant design changes or ship construction. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
