What you'd do

This position is located in the Office of Protective Services responsible for ensuring the safety and security of staff, visitors, and national collections across the Smithsonian.
Major duties
The Supervisory Training Instructor develops learning programs for OPS and SI-wide staff for a broad range of topics like law enforcement, risk management, security services, CPR/AED/First Aid, and career and leadership development. In this position, you will: Prepare lesson plans and testing materials, deliver classroom instruction, and identify and implement changes in course materials as needed. Provide technical input into the development and revision of training strategies and methods of instruction. Conduct live-fire familiarization and qualification training with assigned weapons. Instruct portions of the New Employee Entry Level Training and other designated courses for security personnel assigned to the Smithsonian Institution. Supervise, manage, and direct the work of staff assigned to OPS.

Basic Qualifications: Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. In addition to the basic qualification requirement above you must also meet the specialized experience below: Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: serving as a technical expert in the area of security services; performing instructional and training development programs for staff; managing course materials and training aids; and providing practical training exercises and examinations. Your resume must be no more than two (2) pages and should clearly demonstrate how your experience aligns with the responsibilities and specialized experience required for this position. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
