About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.
Major duties
Troubleshoots, performs major mechanical repairs, operational tests and maintains installed industrial production machinery and non-production machinery. Install variety of grinding wheels on all types of grinding machines and make necessary adjustments as needed. Use all hand tools common to trade and various test equipment and measuring devices. Plans and lays out work which requires the study of sketches and blueprints prior to movement. Operates motor vehicle as a means of transportation and to carry tools and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an PRODUCTION MACHINERY MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common installation of new and relocating of existing industrial production machinery and nonproductive machinery. I can move equipment from one location to another and relocates or installs different equipment to perform different operations as operation changes. Perform riggings work necessary to move, load, unload and install industrial production/non production machinery. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Troubleshooting Physical Effort: Work requires frequent handling of objects weighing up to 45 pounds and occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 45 pounds. Incumbent is required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crouch, kneel and climb for substantial periods of time. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside shop areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated and heated. There is exposure to noise, moving objects, sharp edges of equipment with possibility of cuts and bruises. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling while climbing and working on bridge cranes (up to 5 tons). Wears such safety equipment as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.)
