Logistics Management Specialist
What you'd do
This position is located in the in the APHIS, Veterinary Services, Field Operation, Logistics Center, National Veterinary Stockpile (NVS). Ensuring the availability of critical veterinary supplies, personal protective equipment, vaccines, antivirals, and other pharmaceutical products and equipment that States, Tribes, and Territories may need.
Major duties
The duties may include, but are not limited to: Respond to inquiries or requests for technical assistance from other agencies, states or local governments, emergency responders, etc. Provides technical advice in logistics management planning and operations, investigating and analyzing problem areas that have been particularly resistant to satisfactory resolution. Collaborates with vendors and /or manufacturers and coordinates with the contracting officer to reach acceptable purchase agreements, directing storage activities. Provides expertise used in developing best practices that result in inventory accountability, reconciliation, and financial reporting; assist the technical authority on logistics-related issues. Assists States, Tribes, and Territories, plan, train, and exercise for the rapid request, receipt, processing, and distribution of supplies and equipment during an event.
What you need to qualify
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Planning, integrating, coordinating and evaluating a range of activities associated with acquisition, management, storage, maintenance, transport and deployment of assets in the event of natural disasters, terrorism, or other emergency situations. Analyzing situations and developing and implementing contingency plans, action plans and safety plans to facilitate response to emergencies. Using initiative and creativity to respond to emergency periods when correct interpretations of events and rapid, accurate decision making have potentially significant human consequences. Adapting or modifying or initiating emergency response planning and preparedness procedures. Justifying or defending issues related to cooperative agreements or contractual arrangements related to procurement, storage, and transport issues. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
