SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST
What you'd do
You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the FLEET READINESS CENTER MID-ATLANTIC, FRCMA VRT DEPT of FLTREADCEN DET MID ATLANTIC PAX RIVER.
Major duties
You will analyze safety design features and specifications and develops new methods and procedures to identify or control hazardous processes and equipment usage. You will certify work environments where guidelines or standards require assurance that specific and predetermined safeguards or practices are present prior to work beginning. You will direct investigations of accidents, analyzing precipitating factors and accident cause data in order to develop specific methods for prevention. You will consult with specialists from related occupations concerning work process modifications and recommend corrective or remedial safety measures. You will advise management officials on the status of the safety and occupational health, programs and recommend changes in the design of work programs to meet the new safety and occupational health standards.
What you need to qualify
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Knowledge of various safety and occupational health regulations, procedures, practices, and standards; 2) Ability to interpret and apply basic Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards to unsafe acts and conditions characteristic of shop and shipboard environments; 3) Experienced in evaluating various types of personal protective equipment (PPE) and researching alternative forms of PPE; 4) Ability to conduct OSH inspections to identify unsafe practices and working conditions and recommend measures to remedy or correct hazards; 5) Skilled in using job-relevant information systems and/or software applications, such as Microsoft Office Applications and RMI, necessary for entering and tracking program inspections, Job Hazard Analyses, Mishap Investigations, Medical Surveillance, and Training. .
