Major duties
This position is in the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Service of the VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS). The incumbent is responsible for assisting the service chief in leading the Audiology and SpeechLanguage Pathology service, in conjunction with assisting section chiefs in this pursuit. Duties include but are not limited to: The incumbent serves as a consultant to other facility personnel on difficult or complex cases and may function as a subject matter expert within their clinical domain. The clinician is expected to remain current with developments in the field and maintain professional competency through reading professional literature, participating in continuing education, engaging in professional development activities, and collaborating with colleagues in related disciplines. Strong professional interpersonal communication is required. The incumbent is expected to attend staff meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings, review policies and procedures, and participate in in-service training as appropriate. The clinician may participate in research activities related to their professional field. While extensive research may not be common in the clinical setting, the use of carefully executed procedures may contribute to research efforts, and the incumbent may be asked to assist in gathering clinical data. The incumbent may perform ancillary assignments, including occasional program management duties, when the complexity and workload are not substantial. Basic Requirements: A. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. B. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d). C. Education: The individual must meet at least one of the following requirements below. NOTE: all applicants must submit a copy of their transcripts. Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) or Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).OR; Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the USDE NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE), and the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology of ASHA accredits only doctoral degree or AuD programs in audiology. Foreign Education: To be creditable, education completed outside the U.S. must have been submitted to a private organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials. Such education must have been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. programs. D. Licensure Requirement: Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia. NOTE: all applicants must provide a copy of their licensure with their application. E. Grandfathering Provision: may qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). F. Preferred Experience: a minimum a five years of experience as a licensed audiologist, a minimum of three years of experience working with cochlear implants and/or vestibular evaluations/treatment, documented experience precepting or mentoring graduate students in audiology, and documented experience in leadership and/or management roles. G. Drivers License: A current, valid state-issued driver's license is required for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid state-issued driver's license. H. Grade Determination: In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must meet the following grade requirements. Supervisory Audiologist, GS-13. (1) Experience: At least two years of experience as a professional audiologist, with at least one year comparable to the next lower grade level. (2) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): In addition to the KSAs required at the full performance level, the following KSAs are required: (a) Skill in conflict resolution to facilitate positive working relationships between employees, team leaders and managers. (b) Skill in applying evidence-based practices in a professional area. (c) Ability to analyze organizational and operational challenges to develop and implement solutions. (d) Ability to develop the abilities and strengths of current employees. (e) Ability to balance responsibilities, set priorities and delegate tasks to meet multiple deadlines. (f) Ability to analyze data to manage workload, quality, performance and productivity within the section Preferred Experience: Minimum 5 years as a licensed Audiologist Documented experience precepting/mentoring graduate students in audiology Documented experience in leadership and/or management role(s) I.
