What you'd do

You will serve as a Laborer (Motor Vehicle Operating) with Joshua Tree Nat'l Park in Twentynine Palms, CA Performs laboring duties that require moderately heavy physical effort requiring the use of common hand tools and power equipment. Incumbent must operate light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc.) to transport personnel, material or equipment to work sites over various types of highway, street and road conditions.

Major duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Operates pick up trucks and other offroad vehicles to conduct maintenance on paved and unpaved roadways. Operates ride on power equipment to assist in the removal of roadside brush, dirt, debris. Uses paint striping equipment to paint pavement markings, parking lot striping, and painting of metal gates. Uses hand tools such as hedgers, loppers, string trimmers, and small saws to conduct roadside brushing of vegetation. Perform various duties and operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds such as pick up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed truck, four-wheel and two-wheel drive etc. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately 11.5 months (March to mid-February) and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. Physical Effort: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance. Work Environment: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area. QUALIFICATIONS - In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/26/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of a Laborer (Motor Vehicle Operator) Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Work Practices (Including keeping things neat, clean and in order) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety In addition to the above job related factors, you must meet the following Selective Placement Factor: Valid State Driver's License - must have and be able to maintain a valid state driver's license as of the closing date of the announcement.
