What you'd do

The purpose of this position is to provide professional and scientific knowledge in performance of work requiring the application of engineering, mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific principles, methods, and techniques.

Major duties

DUTY 1: Applies (engineering, computer science and/or operational research) knowledge in the planning, research, design, development, test, evaluation, integration, acquisition, dissemination, sustainment, modification, and/or exploitation of complex electronic systems to support the organization's mission objectives DUTY 2: Utilizes scientific inquiry in the development of models/simulations and/or computer programs to evaluate and predict the ability to support assigned projects, studies, or problems. DUTY 3: Provides technical guidance, advisory support, and assistance. DUTY 4: Attends meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to program planning, advanced technologies, and support system concepts. DUTY 5: Accomplishes professional development and maintains technical proficiency through professional interaction with technical and professional societies, associations, academia, symposia, contractors, research and development (R&D) organizations

What you need to qualify

This is a GG-07t12 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-07t12 duties for the "Professional and Scientific" work category are at the "Developmental" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-07t12 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the 07t12 grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT 0855 Electronic Engineer: Successfully completed a professional engineering degree: The curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum or include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. OR Combination of education and experience that is college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: EXPERIENCE REQUIRED for GG-07: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include performing reoccurring assignments of entry level where work procedures are established and a number of specific guidelines exist. Work assignments consist of a series of specific and related tasks that have been selected to orient the employee in the practical application of assigned duties. Knowledge of basic occupational principles, concepts, and techniques will be utilized at the developmental capacity. In which, guidelines and work situations require the employee to use judgement in locating, selecting, and applying the most appropriate guidelines, references, and procedures. Assignments are reviewed under close supervision, combined with training to further develop analytical skills and techniques in the occupation. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. OR EDUCATION: I have I have successfully completed one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; or I have a bachelor's degree in education or a subject area related to the position and am claiming Superior Academic Achievement. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: I have less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement; however, I have completed some graduate-level education which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Therefore, I have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED for GG-09: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include performing entry to moderately difficult assignments consisting of a variety of standardized and non-standardized tasks to further orient the employee in the application of occupational principles, methods, and techniques. Assignments are delegated by the supervisor and combined with training to develop analytical skills and techniques used to resolve issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. EDUCATION: I have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE: I have less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement; however, and I have at least one year of progressively higher-level graduate education but have not obtained a master's or equivalent graduate degree. Therefore, I have a combination of experience and education. Note: You must submit a copy of transcripts. EXPEREINCE REQUIRED for GG-12: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include knowledge of a wide range of concepts, principles and practices in a professional or administrative occupation, such as would be gained through extended graduate study or experience and skill in applying this knowledge to difficult and complex work assignments; and/or a comprehensive, intensive, practical knowledge of a technical field and skill in applying this knowledge to the development of new methods, approaches, or procedures. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. The position may be filled at the GG-07 with promotion potential to the GG-12, or filled at the GG-09 with promotion GG-12 or GG-12. The individual selected for this position may be promoted to the target level without further competition upon meeting any legal and regulatory requirements. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUES IN EDUCATION SECTION OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT** PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
